“In November 2023, my brother took his life. I can’t put the shock of it into words, but I’m processing it through a series of paintings that I’ve been working on this year. They’ve become a deeply personal exploration of grief while serving as my tool for healing. I found that facing the pain of loss is freeing, rather than pushing it away, and that painting is my guiding light through the incomprehensible.

I started this piece by observing my brother and I as 2 kids set out to play the game of life. It’s like our souls agreed to share a childhood in the same bubble of reality, but our choices later lead us down different paths. As I’m retracing memories, I’m finding him again through these paintings but with a new lens.“ -Cassinova
